An inherited collection may contain common cards, valuable stars, rookies, vintage issues, autographs, and damaged cards in the same box. Start with organization and identification before trying to assign a total value.
Do not sell the whole box immediately
Keep the cards dry, flat, and protected. Photograph the storage and sort by sport, era, player, and condition without cleaning or altering the cards.
Find the cards that deserve priority
- Vintage cards and early issues.
- Hall of Fame players and major rookies.
- Serial-numbered cards, autographs, and memorabilia.
- Cards in strong condition or professional holders.
Identify before pricing
Use the front and back to confirm the year, set, card number, parallel, and condition. CardsKnow can help create a first-pass record, but unusual, rare, altered, or expensive cards require manual research.
Build a defensible range
Use several recent comparable sales for the exact card and separate raw from graded examples. A collection total should be based on identified cards and ranges, not one optimistic listing.
